Magic Montefeltro Sport Week – A week of sports for everyone at the end of May

In Monte Grimano Terme, during the week of May 19–26, the municipal administration, in collaboration with local associations, will organize a week dedicated to sports and wellness. The event, called Magic Montefeltro Sport Week, will be open to enthusiasts of all ages, offering activities such as football, padel, volleyball, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, walking, yoga, and horseback riding. The project also includes collaboration with the nearby Sassofeltrio, as Monte San Paolo features a shared network of trails between the two municipalities.

The theme of the trail network has become increasingly important to both administrations over the years, as they share the area. In the last 10 years, green, slow, and sports tourism has grown into a significant economic driver. According to a indagine della Coldiretti, Italy leads in green tourism, with nearly 14 million estimated visits in 2023 from both domestic and international guests, in historic villages and agritourism accommodations across the country.

Thanks to local associations such as Bike-Advisor, Leurini Trail, and the Pro Loco associations of Sassofeltrio and Monte Grimano Terme, more than 30 kilometers of historic trails have been restored. These include the “Giro del Borgo” in Monte Grimano Terme, an ancient route connecting the historic center with the Valconca area and the village of San Donato, and the “Sentiero dei Segreti”, a historic thermal trail along the Tassona River springs.

In the section shared with the Sassofeltrio territory, the ancient Via dei Bonromeo has been revitalized, stretching from the slopes of Monte Grillo to the borders of Montecerignone, where the historic route continues toward Sasso Simone and Simoncello.

A booming sector

Over the past year, with the trails fully operational, the results speak for themselves—even though promotion has relied mostly on word of mouth among enthusiasts and a few organized gatherings. Data from key platforms like Strava, AllTrails, and Garmin Connect show a clear trend: hundreds of cyclists and walkers traverse the area each week. A simple visit to Monte San Paolo on a sunny weekend reveals that the mountain is bustling with outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.

The importance of accommodation

Strong numbers also come from bookings in local accommodations, especially during the summer season. Between Monte Grimano Terme and Sassofeltrio, there are over 15 lodging facilities, including hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, and agritourisms. They are particularly busy with international guests seeking peace, relaxation, and simplicity.

Magic Montefeltro Sport Week: The launch event for a green territory

The event scheduled for the end of May aims to maximize promotion and awareness of this new initiative and the surrounding areas. It kicks off on May 19 with a scenic walk, a horseback riding experience, and a football match. Throughout the week, activities will include yoga, trekking, padel and beach volleyball tournaments, and obstacle courses for children.

On Saturday, May 25, there will be a concert set in the stunning Monte Grillo. “Panorami Sonori” will offer the perfect blend of nature and music. The week concludes on Sunday, May 26, with the national MTB event “La Via dei Borromeo”, which will introduce athletes from across Italy to the local trail network.

In total, there will be 10 initiatives over 7 days, involving 9 associations from two municipalities (Monte Grimano Terme and Sassofeltrio), along with numerous local accommodations and businesses collaborating in the project.
